Date: 1829
Format: Sketches from an 1828-29 trip to Italy
Description: Cartoons drawn while on a tour in Italy in 1829. De la Beche took a dim view of organized religion, and especially Roman Catholicism. He was a chauvinist for England, expressing highly insulting views about local people on his travels through Europe.
Taking a Cameo-Portrait and Seeing the Raphaels at the Vatican are from the same trip.
The reproductions in McCartney (1977) from which these has been scanned were very small (just a few inches square).
