Proposal for Geological Society seal

Date: 1825

Format: Sketch

Description: Although it was not taken up as the Geological Society of London's official seal, De la Beche evidently liked the design enough to make a full print of it.

Some people say that the figure looks like Mary Anning (e.g. Strange Science [strangescience.net]), but without evidence this just seems like wishful thinking. Others claim that the figure in the full print is the Charlotte Murchison, the wife of Roderick Murchison. I have not found substantiation for that claim either.
